Mortgage-financed sales showed an decreased by 23.9% compared to April 2019. The share of mortgage sales in total sales was 39.9% (April 2019: 23.4%). In mortgage sales, Istanbul ranked first with 2,451 house sales and a 14.3% share. The province with the lowest mortgage sales was Hakkari.
75,020 houses changed hands as a result of self-financed transfers. Self-financed transfers decreased by 65.1% compared to April 2019. Istanbul ranked first with 3,662 house sales (14.3% share) and Ankara second with 2,286 sales. Izmir was followed by Ankara with 1,372 sales.
14,848 houses were sold for the first time (= new construction sales). The number of properties sold for the first time decreased by 60.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. The sales share of new properties in Turkey in all house sales was 34.7%. In new construction sales Istanbul had the highest share with 2,022 houses which amounts to 13.6%, followed by Ankara with 1,166 houses and İzmir with 854 houses.
27,935 houses changed hands in the second-hand sale of Turkish property. The second-hand sales showed a 52.1% decrease compared to April 2019. Istanbul ranked first with 4,091 sales (14.6% share). The share of second hand sales in total house sales was 66.9% . Ankara ranked second with 3,334 houses sold. Ankara was followed by İzmir with the sale of 1,679 houses.
Property sales in Turkey to foreignersdecreased by 78.8% compared to the same month of the previous year. In April 2020, Istanbul took the first place in housing sales to foreigners, with 374 properties sold. The most popular provinces were Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara, Izmir and Yalova.
